About the Role

This is a mission-critical DevOps / Linux Systems Engineering role supporting highly secure, operational cloud and on-premise geospatial systems. You’ll take a technical leadership position within a mission operations team responsible for sustaining and evolving classified environments used by government stakeholders.

This role is ideal for an experienced Linux-focused DevOps Engineer who thrives in secure, high-stakes environments and enjoys owning system reliability, automation, security hardening, and operational excellence.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Lead system changes, upgrades, and continuous improvements across secure on-prem and AWS environments

• Serve as a technical escalation point, working directly with government and contractor stakeholders

• Proactively monitor system health and perform advanced diagnostics and remediation

• Deploy security patches, STIGs, and bug fixes across test and production environments

• Build, manage, and automate AWS-based Linux systems

• Maintain and update critical databases and operational datasets

• Author and maintain operational documentation, SOPs, and troubleshooting guides

• Respond to security findings and compliance reports with speed and precision

Required Qualifications

• Active Top Secret Clearance with willingness to sit for a CI Polygraph

• CompTIA Security+ (or equivalent DoD 8570 certification)

• Bachelor’s degree with 8–12 years relevant experience
  (or Master’s with 6–10 years)

• Advanced Linux administration experience (RHEL 7+)

• Strong AWS / cloud automation experience (must-have)

• Hands-on experience building, patching, and STIG’ing Linux servers

• Experience with Windows Server administration

• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and documentation skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Highly Desired Skills

• Ansible playbooks and infrastructure automation

• AWS automation tooling and scripting

• Experience with:

• ArcGIS / ESRI deployments

• RDS and SQL technologies

• Apache NiFi

• Python (including ML-related workflows)

🧭 What You’ll Do

🧩 Encryption & Key Management

• Design, develop, and implement enterprise encryption solutions and HSM frameworks.

• Lead HSM lifecycle activities, including initialization, configuration, upgrades, and decommissioning.

• Manage encryption key lifecycle processes — including generation, rotation, backup, and destruction.

• Oversee key ceremonies, dual control, and chain-of-custody procedures to ensure compliance and audit readiness.

🔒 Security Operations & Risk Mitigation

• Provide subject matter expertise on encryption technologies and cryptographic controls.

• Develop and maintain secure room operations, documentation, and procedural guidelines.

• Evaluate risks, identify vulnerabilities, and recommend solutions aligned with enterprise security frameworks.

• Support compliance with internal and external regulatory standards.

🧠 Technical Leadership

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate cryptographic solutions into enterprise systems.

• Advise on the impact of new standards, policies, and technologies on existing security solutions.

• Mentor junior security professionals, sharing expertise in cryptography and secure key management.

⚙️ What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree (Master’s or relevant certifications preferred).

• 8+ years of experience in security engineering or cryptographic key management, ideally within a highly regulated or banking environment.

• Deep experience with Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) such as Thales Network HSM, nShield, and Cloud HSM solutions.

• Strong understanding of encryption algorithms, cryptographic principles, and key management lifecycle.

• Familiarity with Aruba, Aravo, Thales CipherTrust Manager, or Oracle Key Vault a plus.

• Knowledge of BYOK / HYOK integrations across Azure, AWS, or GCP preferred.

• Hands-on experience with scripting, automation, and analytics tools such as PowerBI, Dynatrace, Jira, Confluence, and SharePoint.

• Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
